Regular Membership:

All people of Anambra State by birth, marriage, naturalization, and people who are descendants of same and residing in Canada are eligible to become members of the Association.

Membership Benefits:

All members shall have equal access to whatever benefits or privileges that are available from the Association. However, to be eligible to the following benefits, a member must be in good financial standing and not have defaulted for more than three meetings within the last 12 months before a celebratory event or bereavement.

Member Childbirth

  • A greeting card will be presented with $100.00 cash or cheque.

Weddings & Engagement Ceremonies

  • This is merged as one benefit for all and not each of the events.
  • A greeting card and a cheque or cash of $200.00.

Death of a Member or a Member’s Spouse

  • In the case of a deceased member or spouse, the Association shall make a cash donation of $500.00 to the surviving spouse or family member(s).
  • One hundred dollars ($100.00) shall be used for drinks during the Association’s visit/wake.
  • Unused drinks shall remain with the member to help him/her in entertaining visitors.

Death of a Member’s Parent

  • The Association shall make a presentation of a cheque of $200.00 to the member whose parent died.
  • One hundred dollars ($100.00) shall be used for drinks during the Association’s visit/wake.
  • Unused drinks shall remain with the member to help him/her in entertaining visitors.

Death of a Member’s Child

  • The Association shall make a presentation of $200.00 to the member whose child died.
  • One hundred dollars ($100.00) shall be used for drinks during the Association’s visit/wake.
  • Unused drinks shall remain with the member to help him/her in entertaining visitors.

Death of a Member’s Other Relatives

  • Any other bereavement shall be subject to voluntary contribution by members upon invitation by the member.
  • The Association shall acknowledge such invitation with a condolence card.

Other Events & Occasions

  • UAA Canada can attend any other events and occasions not mentioned here that is organized by its member without any obligation(s).

Enrollment Fees, Dues, and Levies

A member's financial obligation shall include all enrollment fees, dues, levies, fines, and other financial assessments approved in the general meetings.

Enrollment Fees

  • There shall be a one-time new member enrollment fee of twenty dollars ($20.00) for all members regardless of their marital status.

Membership Dues

  • Membership dues shall be ($50.00) dollars annually for each registered member, which can be paid on a quarterly basis.

Inactive Membership

  • A member shall be declared inactive upon failure to meet their financial obligations and failure to attend a minimum of three (3) meetings in one year. The penalty for failure to comply with obligation to attend the minimum meeting attendance in a year shall not apply to a member who has been granted exemption by the general house because of reasonable excuse. The president shall present such situation of non-compliance to the general house for decision.
  • An inactive member is not entitled to any membership benefits of the Association. An inactive member may reactivate full membership by meeting their financial obligations from the day they became inactive and complying with the minimum annual meeting attendance in one year.

Resignation and Termination

  • Any member may resign by filing a written resignation with the Secretary. Once a resignation letter is communicated in writing to the Secretary, the decision to resign cannot be changed by the member. Resignation shall not relieve a member of unpaid dues, or other charges previously accrued. A resigned member shall pay new membership and accrued annual dues for their membership to be reactivated.
  • A member can have their membership terminated by a majority vote of the members present in a general meeting. However, any such termination vote must be preceded by disciplinary hearing(s) during which the member must have been given the opportunity to defend himself or herself but was unsuccessful.
